From October 11 through October 31, McDonald's first rolled out what would become their classic holiday promotion: the Halloween Pails, which were also used the Happy Meal container. During this introduction, all buckets were orange and made to resemble pumpkins. There were three unique ‘faces,’ but four unique names on the back.

- McPunky (smiling, toothless, triangle eyes)
- McPunk’n (same as McPunky)
- McGoblin (half circle eyes, diamond nose, zig-zag mouth)
- McBoo (round eyes, round nose, round mouth)
Identifiable features: have 1985 date on the bucket, lids have four 1/2” openings with twelve hole grid mesh.
