2010 marked the 50th Anniversary of Sanrio, creators of Hello Kitty. Promotions for this milestone took place between late 2010 and early 2011. In non-Asian countries, Hello Kitty was the main focus. In Asian countries, the promotion spanned across multiple Sanrio licenses. The Sanrio toy line ran concurrently with another premium line that varied by country.

United States[]

From January 28 through March 3, 2011 McDonald's in the United States ran a Hello Kitty & Bakugan toy line promotion. This line consisted of six Hello Kitty toys and six Bakugan toys (three figures & three balls).

International[]

Europe[]

Running concurrently with the United States, McDonald’s in select European (Sweden & France) countries ran their own Hello Kitty & Bakugan toy promotion. The Italian toy line was slightly different, offering only four Hello Kitty toys and four Bakugan.

China[]

McDonald’s in China ran a Hello Kitty promotion and their toys were very similar to the McDonald’s promotion in Europe in that they were shaped as apples. There was no concurrent promotion.

Malaysia & Thailand[]

In various Asian countries, Hello Kitty was just one of the toys in the Sanrio toy line in a celebration of Sanrio's 50th Anniversary and included some of the other licenses. Alongside this promotion, four Marvel Heroes toys were alternative options.

  • December 30 to January 5: Hello Kitty / Iron Man
  • January 6 to 12: My Melody / Wolverine
  • January 13 to 19: Cinnamoroll / The Hulk
  • January 20 to 26: Sugarbunnies / Spider-man

Brazil[]

Brazil ran the same promotion as Malaysia & Thailand, but instead of Spider-man they had The Thing from The Fantastic Four.
