McDonaldland

McDonaldland is a McDonald's media franchise and the fictional fantasy world inhabited by Ronald McDonald and his friends. The creation of Ronald McDonald occurred in 1963, McDonaldland itself was first introduced in 1970. In 1971, the first concepts for the Hamburgler, Grimace, Mayor McCheese, Captain Crook and the Professor are introduced and become the first residents of McDonaldland. Over the next few years these characters will go through a modification process, updating the character faces and features.

In 1975, the Mayor McCheese Bag promotion was specifically designed for children. It was advertised as ‘The Honorary Meal of McDonaldland.” This included McDonaldland Cookies and McDonaldland Citizenship Wall Certificates. This special appeal to children began the process leading to the Happy Meal concept. The Captain Crook Sea Bag promotion highlighted the Filet-O-Fish sandwich.

In 1980, Birdie The Early Bird joins McDonaldland’s cast of characters in the Spring at the roll out of the advertising for the Breakfast Menu. In 1988. CosMc (pronounced cosmic) character joins the cast.
